Let’s pretend we’re sitting across from each other at a cozy coffee shop. You’ve got your drink of choice in hand, and I’ve got mine (anything with caramel in it). This isn’t a pitch, it’s just me sharing a little of my heart and how Open It Anyway came to be.

About Open It Anyway

This all started because I know what it’s like to love Jesus, want to read the Bible, and still struggle to actually open it. Life is busy, distractions are real, and sometimes we convince ourselves we’re too far behind or too unqualified to even try.

But here’s the thing: God’s Word was never meant to collect dust. It’s alive. It speaks. And every time we open it, even for just a few minutes, He meets us there.

That’s the heartbeat of Open It Anyway: small, simple, grace-filled steps into Scripture. Not perfection. Not guilt. Just encouragement to keep opening the Word, even when life is messy.

About Me

I’m Heather — teacher, pastor, writer, wife, mom, grandma, and ordinary person who needs God’s Word just as much as you do. For years, my job required me to be in Scripture daily, and I loved that built-in structure. But when I moved to Tennessee, life shifted. Suddenly, that structure was gone, and so was my consistency.

I felt frustrated and even a little ashamed, like if I couldn’t get this right, how could I help anyone else? But God reminded me that His Word never returns void, and that He doesn’t call us to perfection. He calls us to Himself.

With the encouragement of a small group who helped me reconnect with Scripture, Open It Anyway was born. Not because I’m an expert, but because I’m someone who understands the struggle, who has lived it, and who believes with all her heart that God’s Word changes lives.

I’ve spent years teaching, pastoring, and writing. I love to take big truths and make them simple, practical, and encouraging. More importantly, I know what it’s like to be sitting on the other side of the table wondering if I’ll ever be consistent in Scripture again. That’s why this matters so much to me.

So welcome, friend. You’re not alone. You matter. And I’m so glad we get to do this together.

Heather
